There is an expression that I heard when I first moved to Blowing Rock over a year ago, "if you don’t like the weather, just wait fifteen minutes." Never have I found this to be so true than yesterday afternoon. This fall has been riddled with changing weather from snow on the first of October to near 70 degree temperatures in the middle of November. If you’re like me, you love the climate up here; you never know what to expect which keeps you on your toes and tuned into raysweather.com. But if you don’t like the weather, just wait 15 minutes.
Yesterday started partly cloudy, with highs in the upper 60′s, and cleared up a little throughout the day. Then the clouds rolled in. As I was walking through downtown along Main Street at 4:30pm I could see the clouds racing across the sky and the winds began to whip. As I neared the post office, the drizzle began. By the time I checked my mailbox and came out it was pouring. I was absolutely drenched to the bone by the time I arrived back to the office around 4:45pm. A little after 5:00pm I took this picture as I walked home. A beautiful end to a day providing me with a textbook explanation of the adage, "if you don’t like the weather just wait 15 minutes." I should note that today has a projected high of 40 degrees with snow showers in the forecast. As I look out of the Blue Ridge Mountain Club’s office windows over Main Street I see flurries blowing by and beautiful blue skies in the background.
