Introducing New Blue Ridge Mountain Club Members Rob & Ann Preston

A couple of years back Ann and I began an informal search for possible vacation and retirement destinations.  Having spent vacations at the Outer Banks for 25 of the last 27 years, we were quite interested in heading south.  This was due, in no small part, to the incredible real estate taxes here in NJ as well as the overall high cost of living.  Couple this with a moderate climate, friendly people and high quality of life we knew that Southern living would be attractive to us.  Beginning late last year we visited several communities in Tennessee and North Carolina.  We wanted to be out of the hotter more humid areas and desired to be close to a University town for cultural options as well as close to well-regarded medical facilities.  The climate, community, mountains and quality of life all brought us to the Boone/Blowing Rock NC area.  And when taking a look at the options in the area we were drawn immediately to the Blue Ridge Mountain Club (BRMC).
The BRMC offers unparalleled rural mountain living within a gated community equally convenient to the University town of Boone and the charm, culture and dining opportunities of Blowing Rock.  Within the community, not once have we traveled down Reynolds Parkway without seeing breathtaking views or nature scenes that could be taken right out of a National Geographic magazine!  Ann and I appreciate the privacy the development offers, the hiking and ATV trails to enjoy the natural environment as well as all of the activities the BRMC staff puts together on a monthly basis. Plus, the people we’ve met at BRMC, both current and future homeowners, all share the same core values in appreciation and enjoyment of the mountains, nature and the outdoors.  Choosing BRMC as a site to vacation in the near term and to retire to in the long term was a no-brainer!
We are currently in the process of building a home quite near the Watson Gap Pavilion which is centrally located within the development.  Ann’s sister was so impressed with the development that she and her husband purchased the lot next to us for a future build.  The staff at the BRMC readily accommodated our needs in making some changes in the lot lines to facilitate the optimal home site placements.  As we’ve constructed five new homes over the last 35 years, we are somewhat experienced in the building process.  This project has gone along extremely well.  Interfacing with our builder, Mitch Raymond of Raymond Timber Framed Homes had been a pleasure.  He has enthusiastically and artistically met his obligations and our expectations!  As such, we are anxiously looking to move in and begin being part of this growing community sometime during the month of October 2012.
